Antigua Market
The Antigua market is a colorful and living tapestry that I never get tired of watching. |
The action starts in areas outside of the market halls, like in this long strip mall with bakeries and a supermarket |
People come from all over to sell or buy and sometimes both |
It's a long day, and you can hear the trucks arrive before daylight |
Then it's into the outside aisles toward the great halls and the surrounding maze of stands |
For whatever reason and tradition, this is how these ladies sell fruit outside |
The entrance. Step aside for these hard working carriers |
Part of the main hall |
From here one can lose oneself in narrow aisles - I once 'rescued' two foreign girls who were totally lost here |
Butt scratchers! Butt scratchers, anyone?! |
Patience and more patience. Long waits interrupted by furious bargaining |
A carrier is loaded up with an order and money is counted. Another major transaction completed with competence |
The young get taught by the old, what to watch for and how to deal |
Two pairs of critical eyes. A vespa may be used outside, inside, never |
